3.3 Mandates/Sources of authority FAFG has legal status, authorized through the Ministerial Accord no. 321-97, granted on 17th September 1997, which states: The nature of the Foundation is of a private, not-for-profit, apolitical character and is for educational, scientific and investigative purposes in the fields of forensic anthropology and human rights, social and cultural.
FAFG performs investigations of forensic cases oriented towards the location and identification of missing persons and victims of the abuse of their human rights quickly, precisely and cost-efficiently for the historical clarification, the dignification of the victims and for the search for justice.
The constitution of the Foundation states that it was created for an indefinite period of time and that its principle objective is to provide the following services:
1. Aide the justice system in the search for proof of crimes, thus promoting the authentic respect for the rights of the individual as a citizen, without social distinctions
2. Promote the study and the investigation of the forensic anthropological sciences and their dissemination, at a national and international level
3. Investigate, analyze and identify human skeletal remains at a forensic level.
4. Provide forensic scientific services to any institution or person who requests it by legal means
5. Maintains constant contact with a variety of governmental institutions, non-governmental organizations and international organizations that work towards the aims previously mentioned
6. Support forensic investigations and the prevention of human rights violations, at a national and international level
7. Cooperate with institutions that have similar aims if deemed necessary
